We're pleased to announce that our Dedicated Server is up and running. Settings are Ace (no externals) and I've slightly modified the cockpit views so you can see a bit further behind you as well as down in the cockpit. You can see the chaff/flare counters in the A10 for instance.

We'll be doing coop nights from time to time with missions made with LMR (Lock On Mission Randomizer). What this means that if you've flown a certain mission this week, then you fly it again next week you'll have a different experience. That pesky Mirage that shot you down over Sochi may not even spawn in next time. Or, he may spawn in when you're over Maykop which would change the dynamics of the engagement.

We're working on better missions than you've experienced before. No longer do you just fly to your waypoints, fire at bandits then rearm and refuel. You may have to go around enemy SAM sites. You may have to fly above MANPADS engagement ranges. You have to think on the fly when you're in our server. There are tankers aloft with AI escorts. If you get an active missile warning with a low signal strength, you be assured it's that pair of F-14's with the tanker that shot at you.

Ground pounders haven't been left out. There are plenty of ground targets to kill, but it won't be easy. IR SAMs are out there, as well as radar sites. There is plenty of SEAD available too. Kill the EWR so that the enemy datalink goes out. Kill that armor column. Don't get killed at the same time. Ground pounders have to worry about enemy CAP but the flight paths for both types of aircraft don't parallel each other the whole flight. There will be times when you are extremely vulnerable to bandits and others where you just have to concentrate on avoiding that SAM that you don't see.

We'll be mucking around with the weather and launch times to give you a wider assortment of atmospherics rather than the sun high in the sky that you're used to. There will be overcast and thunderstorms. Ground fog. Hazy days. We want everyone to who flies on our server to remember us as the guys who gave you a "new" experience in LOMAC/FC.

Here are some of the missions running in our server right now:

http://iplaster.net/rugg/3sqn_ded10.jpg

We hope to see you all in the server and we hope you have a good time in it. Thanks goes to Luckydog and Polecat for helping out with DedMac. Also, props to the guys in 3Sqn for ponying up the cash to get this thing up and running. Last but not least, www.zanadoo.com (http://www.zanadoo.com) is our hosting company. We have massive amounts of bandwith on a nice huge fiber optic line. Our guys in Australia were pinging 180/190 to the server, the other companies I looked at were in the 250 range even though they were on the left coast. If for any reason you want to rent a server, this company is the place to go. They're letting Fudd hook up his rig there for Red Flag (no charge). If you contact them ask for John and tell him that you heard about them from me. He'll work with you and give you a better deal than the normal guy off the street. Their tech support is top notch, Dean got me up and running with a minimum of hassle. I've had dedicated servers before and these guys are top notch.

Hi Guys,

Quick stats update:

1. Connection from lomac to a mysql database complete
2. Working on passing the mp_log file and asynclog for the kill information
3. Processing world objects will be done in a later release (pk information vs range etc), requires the exports to be enabled and unfortunately ppl can get aircraft positions etc with it on.
4. Web pages - not started

Couple of technologies the web server will need:

-mysql 5.0 or preferrably 5.1 (5.1 will be required to do monthly stats etc, not just running totals).
-php latest +pear (HMTL_TABLE, IMAGE_GRAPH)
-luasql will need to be placed on the lomac server.

The lua script will use slow update rate cooroutines (no performance hit on the server)

Ok the architecture is done for the stats_engine.lua script:

So whats your wish list for the stats both player and server.

Server:
- Peak usage infromation, players vs time
- Mission time to go
- current players in server
- others?

Player:
- A2A kill ratio total
- who kiled whom with what etc.
- Score: how? like in lockon 100 for a kill if u land 5 if u die (not sure if it's doable but if you don't want it I wont waist my time on it)? or like 504s
- A2G kill ratio, etc
- time in server,
- flight time?
- others?
- stats total or month by month or both?

I really like how the 504 stats are, I don't like the 169th at all. So if it can de done just like the 504 that would be nice.

Getting very close to having something to show you guys now. What I desperately need is a long mp_log.txt file to check the parsing of the file.

Some nice features with the sorting of the stats table, no refresh of the web page is required.

Well if anyone is in a server with lots of people for a while you can just grab the mplog file from the lockon/temp directory. It gets reset though if you quit and refly. Need samples of a2a, a2g, anit-shipping strikes.

The A2A stats (page) is done, Ill join your lockon server and leave it connnected for as long as possible to test it in the real world over the next couple of days. I'll post a link once I've joined the server and know it's all working ok

Working on the a2g, pilot stats and server stats now. Shouldn't be much longer.

I don't have a clue what that Graph represents... surely the Y-axis is Percentage... but the X-axis is not defined?

Also why do you label Y-axis number values with words, as in "one hundred" for 100???

Mugatu
26th July 2007, 03:45 AM
It's just a sample :P To make sure the graph functions work. By the sound of it you can see it :)

kills vs missiles
==========
Y axis will be kills
x axis misile type

kills vs aicraft
=========
y axis kills
x axis aircraft type

Server Usage
==============
Y axis Player number
x axis Time of Day

We might need to have a meeting to disscuss the options as Mugatu has done all this work for us and we can't yet offer him a host and database to support it.

Mugatu
26th August 2007, 11:41 PM
Yep sorry, got busy.

Here's what needs to be installed on the web host:

1. Mysql
http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/mysql/5.0.html you can download the 5.1 beta release if you want, it has more features than 5.0 and is pretty stable.

For instance if you want to clear out/archive the tables on a monthly basis it can be done automatically via the 5.1 Events feature.

A remote user will need to be created for the connenction from the lockon server. More info once it's up and running.

A very good tool (free light version available) is http://www.sqlmanager.net/products/mysql/manager for editing the database.

2. Apache2
]http://httpd.apache.org/download.cgi
Insalll it default location is good, config file to follow.

3. PHP 5.2.3
http://www.php.net/downloads.php
Download the PHP 5.2.3 installer
then the PHP 5.3.3.zip pacckage

Install using the installer then unarchive the zip package over the top. It contains the mysql modules etc that for some reason are not included in the first package.

php.ini needs to be edited but again I'll post my copy when I get home tonight.

4. Pear
Pear provides add ons to PHP I use it for the graph package and it relies on a couple of modules being installed at point 3 above.

Download and install according the instructions once 1,2,3 above are done:
http://pear.php.net/manual/en/installation.getting.php

That stats pages themselves are a mixture of php for the server side, javascript/html for the client side and it's a Web 2.0 page (AJAX). That's what lets you sort without refreshing the page.

I've created the A2G tables as well should have them finished this week. Can you create a banner image as per the formums image with "3 Squadran Stats" on it and I'll format the pages as per the forum look and feel or you guys can do that once you get the html.

Rugg do we have a box somewhere that we can host this stuff on?

I can do all the installs no problem but I think I'd prefer to keep this stuff off the gaming server and on another host.

I've got some servers at work that we might be able to use as a last resort but I'd prefer not as business changes within my company will always come first and therefore the future of hosting there is uncertain.

Rugg If you have a site hosted somewhere they would most likely have this software available to paying customers.

Mugatu
5th September 2007, 10:06 PM
Stats you mean? Zero Zilch Zip it's hands off on the lomac side. Nothing to do other than upgrade the export scripts for A2G.

It sends the a chuck of stats during the mission (lua coroutines every 60 seconds I think I set it too), on mission end and if the data base is not up is saves it then will retry sending it next time. If the connection remains down it will keep on logging the updates until next time a misison ends.

No mplog saving etc are needed. :rtfm: :whip:

I don't think it will impact on the game hosting performace but I'll monitor to see once it's done.

Looks like there's a couple of bugs with the stats engine:

http://147.203.6.58/a2a_stats.html

1. I can't see the graphs when using IE 6: firefox, safari look ok.

2. The mission tool in use doesn't seem to reset the mplog after each mission thus the duplicate entries.

3. Missile names are longer than expected aka R-77 (AA-12) should have jsut been R-77.

Can someone explain how the mission rotator works in terms of moving to the next mission?

Thanks

TomAce

Doh my kill on bluedevil because if our "non-smoking server" policy leaves me with -1 LOL

Mission rotator seams to be a windows macro that just reloads a new mission the same as would a physical user ie using the same buttons and menus. The server stays up it just reloads a new map and after an interval of a few mins the "S" key is simulated for the mission to start.

If grabs the next mision in the list (from a text file). I know that the lockon.exe has been renamed so not sure if that's causing you dramas Rugg might be able to tell you more on this.

Mugatu, did you get my PM with the links to the artwork you requested? Also, is there a way you can assign points (like you do with A/A kills) to ground kills? Maybe 25 or 30 dead ground targets equal the same points as one A/A kill? Something to put the ground pounders on the stats board that will keep them interested.

Yep thanks, just finsihed the pages today. I'll upload them tonight after work.

Not sure I follow, different to whats on the a2g_stats.html page?

Mugatu, did you get my PM with the links to the artwork you requested? Also, is there a way you can assign points (like you do with A/A kills) to ground kills? Maybe 25 or 30 dead ground targets equal the same points as one A/A kill? Something to put the ground pounders on the stats board that will keep them interested.

Looks nice! Would you prefer I use a gradiated blue for the background so that you can "stretch" it?

Does anyone have problems with the page and internet explorer? Using version 6 the tables don't center and the air-to-air tab disappears!

Arg, Bill sux!

nice work Mugatu

Talk about a nerd trying to be cool!! If only ED would produce games for OS X then windows would be gone totally.

Can we please not have manpads on the map spread out in the middle of knowhere? Like I think it is quite unrealistic to have manpads in the middle of some field with nothing around it for 5-10km. You wouldn't really do that in real army would you? I think manpads should be placed near buy APC's, trucks, convoys (not moving) and towns/vilages... but not in the middle of knowhere and no targets around it. So, that's my opinion and plee... if the rest agrees I'd like our maps changed.

The largest amount of Manpads in any of the maps is 5.

yeah but they are located all by themselves in the middle of nowhere... you fly bellow 4km and you see no targets bellow you... go bit lower and baaaam! you're fucked by manpad...

They're located in areas where armor or other ground vechicles are. I didn't place any of them in the middle of nowhere.

yeah... really tough time at first (4x guys from 504 where flying above their S300 site and were just waiting for guys to go to them... most people got splashed if they tried to engage... including me once too :) But I got hit about 5-6 times today, few times by Prince161 and BoomBoom161... I wasn't very hapy amout that to be honest :| I was really pissed (ya'll know me :whistling: ) then again later with some good suport of my squadies (can't be very effective alone unless you manage to sneek in) managed to get good 7 kills and ballance it out a bit... tough day overall...

Currently, we consider your server the best (missions are good, settings are good, and pings are steady) :) We had a nice flight there. But I didnt realize we were sitting at our S-300. We just flew west and killed any bandits we saw. by the time we cleared it, we were winchester so we couldnt really press to your SAMs.... :D

I try to make the missions good for ground pounders as well as CAPpers. From time to time if I see something that needs to be fixed or adjusted, I'll go in and do it. Thanks for the feedback, if you have any suggestions let me know.

speaking of adjustments....

A Blue Su-27 spawns in the air on one of the maps I think its the last slot but I may be mistaken. Not sure of the name but its where Blue CAP takes off from Krasnadar Area and heads west towards the Kerch Straits. (For kuky I guess it would be east :whistling: ) Its also the one that has several ships located north and south of the strait and there are plenty of ground units.

I have all air units hidden in the editor. So I'll need the mission name at least.
